Today we are making a Sour Cream Treat Pouch for Valentines Day. This is another easy craft that was done with crafting tools rather than a cutting machine. As a matter of fact, this project calls for one piece of cardstock so the Cricut would have slowed me down.

In addition to cardstock, you will need a few other supplies:

  1. Scoring Mat
  2. Scissors
  3. Double-sided tape
  4. Hershey's chocolate Kisses

I have to admit I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out where this name came from. I wanted to know why these pouches are called Sour Cream when they look exactly like a Samosa – a very popular pastry in the Indian Culture! The similarity in shape became apparent to me when my son asked if I was trying to replicate a Samosa.

I'm happy to report that my rabbit hole chase actually led me to answers.  The name Sour Cream originates from the single-serve sour cream packet Wendy's use to give to customers who bought a baked potato. I guess someone loved the shape of the single-serve packet so they duplicated it and the rest is history. If you know any other stories about how the name Sour Cream Treat Pouch came about, I would love to hear them in the comments!

This is the last craft in my Valentine Day series and I am so proud of myself.  If you haven't already, check out Fries Before Guys as well as the others, I think they are pretty neat. I did this series for 8 days and while it came with many challenges, it was also really rewarding.  There's something so powerful in achieving goals you've set for yourself. I know a 8 days series isn't long but I'm working my way up.

How to make a Sour Cream Treat Pouch

  1. Cut cardstock into 6 by 4 inches (or sizing of your choice, it doesn't matter)
  2. Add double-sided tape to any 3 sides of the cardstock
    1. If you want a long skinny tube, add tape to the shorter sides and 1 longer side
    2. if you want a short fat tube, add tape to the longer sides and 1 short side
  3. Adhere the first 2 sides together by rolling cardstock in a cylinder shape
  4. Stick the bottom portion together
  5. Fill with Hershey's Chocolate Kisses
  6. Close the top of the pouch in the opposite direction of where the paper is naturally going
